Giacinto Facchetti (Treviglio, july 18, 1942 – Milan, september 4, 2006) was an italian soccer player e sports director. He linked his name to that of Inter of which he was a player from 1960 to 1978 – collecting a total of 634 appearances and 75 goals – and president from January 2004 to September 2006.
“When I arrived at Inter, I knew exactly who Giacinto Facchetti was. His fame extended beyond Italy’s borders, and he was well-known in Argentina. Over the years, he became a friend I could turn to for advice, and he taught me to always take a step back and reflect during difficult times. He passed away on September 4, 2006, and five days later we won a tough match (Fiorentina 2–3 Inter). In that game, I wore the captain’s armband dedicated to him in his honor.” (Zanetti)
